Blessing of the new canoe This Saturday 8th January

A special ceremony will be held on Saturday directly after our morning training session to officially "Bless" the new Bradley canoe. This will be at approixmately 8.30am.

The BBQ will be fired up with Breakfast served for all who attend, the club general meeting will follow directly after the blessing is completed. Hope many of our members will be able to make it!

P.S Remember saturday training sessions are back to 6am start on the water, so please arrive promptly by 5.45 to organise the canoes!

"Congratulations" to all who paddled at Hamo this year!! Some fantastic results for all Northcliffe members...who teamed up with other clubs....Our Men's Team who came in 2nd 42km Change Over!!

** This coming Saturday after our 7am paddle...we will have a Breakfast BQ hope to see everyone there for some "fun" and get together!

INTRODUCTION TO OUTRIGGER PADDLING

Hi Members

Its time to start recruiting for next years season and so the first weekend of each month I will conduct Introductory Sessions. These are a perfectly safe, non stressful and low energy introduction to our sport and an ideal way to bring new people in, rather than expose them immediately to ocean conditions or the higher fitness requirements of our normal paddling sessions.

Be sure to tell your family, friends and work colleagues and of course you are welcome to attend as well to help out with the instruction or even have a go at steering! Be sure to let me know names and numbers to make sure we have enough people there to steer and supervise all the paddlers.

To all new paddlers looking to try this sport for the first time. Conducted in the safety of the Marine Stadium it will include a short safety briefing with approximately 1 hour of paddling and basic instruction.

When: This Saturday 3rd July at 9am
What to wear: Hat, Sunscreen and clothes that you don't mind getting splashed (it is a water sport so please don't wear good clothes or expensive sun glasses)
Where: Meet next to the containers on the club beach (see here)
Required: Book you place by calling Grant on 0413 595 538 before noon on Friday. Please download, print and complete the Indemnity Waiver (click here)
Cost: There is NO cost to participate in this session.

Hi Paddlers ... Just to confirm tomorrow's race start WILL BE at Greenmount Beach.

For those support boat drivers that are concerned about crossing the Tweed Bar, you may wish to consider launching from Currumbin or the Southport Spit as an alternative.

Swim Test & Huli Drills

Xylo P2 outrigging paddle in near new condition for sale $150.00 (new $270)
Series 2 all wood paddle with green 'Tuff Stuff' edge protection.

Is a good first paddle for either 6 or 1 man canoe. Length would suit someone 5'9" to 6'0" but should be able to be cut down if you know someone who can do this.

Huli Practice and Swim Test

At this Saturday's (21st Nov) we will be conducting 'Huli Training' and completing the required 'Swim Test' during the 8am Club session, before we head out for our normal paddle.

New paddlers wishing to participate in mid-week training sessions need to have completed both these evolutions and be signed off, as well as obtaining AOCRA insurance.

Club members returning for the new season are welcome to join us as well or may do these as part of there normal training sessions ...

ALL MEMBERS, please download and complete the 'Participant Form' to help the coaching team best assess how to help you achieve you personal goals for the club and the sport.

2009 TORK CORPORATE CHALLENGE

A huge thank you to all club members who assisted to make yesterday's 2009 TORK Corporate Challenge a great success. We had in excess of 150 paddlers on the water which included many first timers! The Giggilos took out 1st prize, 2nd place went to Santa's Wicked Waka's and 3rd place went to our sponsors for the day, All Tork!

We look forward to doing it all again in 2010!

Mens Team Compete in Hawaii

This weekend will see 2 of our top men's teams compete in the 57th crossing from Moloka'i to Oahu in Hawaii.

The Senior Master Women set a pretty high bench-mark with their recent 3rd place and all the crews and paddlers back home in Australia wish our guys the greatest success and a safe crossing in chasing another great result.

They say that the results come from the preparations and you can all rest assured that these guys have worked very hard and been very focused on this event for the last few months ... go get em' guys.

A huge congratulations has to go to Team Curry. They battled 6 metre swells and strong Hawaiian winds to get a 3rd place in the Senior Masters division of the Na Wahine O Ke Kai with only 4 minutes and 4 seconds between 1st and 3rd.

Well done to our Northcliffe girls, Lesley, Lyn, Janine and Julie. Your determination and grit has shown us if you work hard enough anything is possible. We are very proud of them.

Next is our boys in 2 weeks time. I am sure they will do us proud, as they always do.

Team Curry (feat. 4 of our own) on Today Show

The Channel 9 'Today Show' have done a piece on the Senior Master Womens crew that has headed off to Hawaii. There are four Northcliffe girls competing and a few old members as well. The piece will be run this Tuesday, 22 September between 8 and 9am.

On behalf of the club we would like to say how proud we are of these ladies and wish them luck. They are the first all Australian senior master womens crew and we'd love them to be first across the line in their division.

Thanks to all who provided photo's and video's for use on the club website, they have now been added here.

If you have some footage or snaps you would like added, please burn to a disk or copy onto a Thumb Drive and give to one of the committee members. Please DO NOT email photos or videos as the files are normally a little large to manage in this fashion.

Finally, anyone with a water proof camera may wish to start bring it to the occasional training session. It's a great time of year for perfect morning pic's, which look fab' on the website and will help us attract new members and sponsors to the Club.

Recently browsing the web in order to find new pictures for our club website, I came across several photos that look suspiciously like club members. It would seem as if they have 'sold out' for large royalties, world wide recognition and a flirting brush with fame ... check out below to see what I am talking about.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before our very stylish Rookies got the international attention they deserve.

Oh well, it explains why we haven't seen too much of him lately.
